We hope you never have to endure a divorce or a dispute about your child. If you do, however, and are in need of legal representation, you will find compassionate counsel and sound advice at the Law Office of Matthew J. Jensen.

Matthew J. Jensen

Matt is an experienced family law and trial attorney.  He practiced law in California for 16 years and operated his own family law practice for over 12 years before moving to Raleigh.

Matt has been practicing family law and civil litigation in Wake, Durham, and Wayne counties since 2022 and already has extensive experience representing clients at child custody, child support, post separation support, alimony, and domestic violence trials and handling property division matters.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana and his juris doctor from the Santa Clara University School of Law.  During law school, Matt was a judicial extern for Justice Patricia Bamattre-Manoukian of the California Court of Appeal (Sixth District) and the Honorable Socrates P. Manoukian of the Santa Clara County Superior Court.

Matt is a member of both the North Carolina State Bar and the State Bar of California (inactive) and is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and the Ninth Circuit for the U.S. Court of Appeals.

He practiced general civil litigation from 2006 to 2009 in the San Francisco Bay Area and represented municipalities and towns and small businesses during that period.  In 2010, Matt opened his own family law practice in Sunnyvale, California and represented clients in general litigation and divorce, child custody, and child support cases.

Matt is pragmatic and takes pride in keeping most of his cases out of the courtroom.  He believes it is important for clients to weigh the costs of litigation against the potential benefits.  When compromises cannot be made, he is not afraid to fight for his clients in court.

Why Work With Me?

I get good results for my clients because I am pragmatic, skilled at keeping things out of the courtroom, and willing to fight for you.  I work with my clients so they can understand how the law applies to their situations and set realistic goals in their cases.  When property division and support issues are involved, I encourage my clients to think with dollars-and-cents and avoid emotional pitfalls in their decision-making.  I also like to think outside the box and love to collaborate with my clients.
